BLM: My Life Matters

June 30, 2020June 30, 2020 Cee4 Comments

Last year, I received a call from a former colleague.  I won’t call her a friend. I was somewhat surprised when I saw her name pop up on my phone, as she hadn’t called me for a good couple of years.  Nevertheless, I answered and after some cursory smalltalk and a bit of “this is… Continue reading BLM: My Life Matters

A Day at the Races

October 1, 2019October 1, 2019 Cee2 Comments

In all of my 41 years, I have never been to any kind of horse racing event. I have watched it on the TV and been peer pressured into Grand National sweepstakes at work, but I have never felt any kind of inclination to take myself along to a racecourse to watch horses being ridden… Continue reading A Day at the Races

The Great British Sugar Swap

May 6, 2019May 6, 2019 CeeLeave a comment

Recently, I have become very aware that the amount of sugar that we as a family consume is beyond a joke. I have a sweet tooth. I have had a sweet tooth from as long as I can remember (and that would be creeping into the larder under the stairs when I was about 6… Continue reading The Great British Sugar Swap

Say My Name, Say My Name…

March 4, 2019March 4, 2019 Cee10 Comments

As you know, I am the child of immigrant parents. My parents came to England from Nigeria; Anambra State, to be precise. Although they didn’t equip me with a working knowledge of the language (#stillbitter), unlike many of their counterparts, they managed to resist the urge to give me an English name. Instead, they gave… Continue reading Say My Name, Say My Name…

Revisiting Everyday Joy

February 26, 2019February 26, 2019 Cee4 Comments

It’s taken a while, but I have finally managed to put fingers to rose gold HP laptop keyboard and write up my second experience of attending the Everyday Joy retreat. I’m done with gushing over Tamu and her lovely ladies (I’m not). Today, I am going to share the things that really impacted me in… Continue reading Revisiting Everyday Joy

Spent a load of time with my family.
Spent a load of time in the house.
Spent a load of time in the local park.
Ate loads of Indomie noodles.
Did a load of dancing in the kitchen.
Kids did loads of painting.
Started a family business from the house.
Brought joy to loads of people (including myself).
People started to realise that Black lives matter.

Come on 2021 - we're ready for ya!

hey, it's christmas day...πŸŽ„ Don't be deceived hey, it's christmas day...πŸŽ„

Don't be deceived by the billion gifts. We haven't won the lotto. Half (well 1/4) of them are from other family members. Totally over compensated for the lack of a proper Christmas by buying lots of little things for the kids (and 1 or 2 little things for The Photographer and I...😬)

It may not be the Christmas we thought we would have at the start of 2020, but we have made it this far and for that I am thankful πŸ™πŸΎ

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a peaceful end to the year πŸ’•

Kid 1+1 found this alien hiding in her bowl of rice krispies. Finally! We now know what's behind all this madness! We're waiting patiently in front of the cereal box for the rest of it's colony to arrive and take us into Tier 846,693,023,746 πŸš€ Let us know if you find any πŸ‘½

Sending love to everyone impacted by yesterday's news (except the bigots and racists and the not very nice people obvs 😏) πŸ’›

hey, feeling like crap right now πŸ˜’ Work has go hey, feeling like crap right now πŸ˜’

Work has gone absolutely mental. I've got a patch of eczema growing on my hand. Eyes are heavy and twitching intermittently. Constant low-level headache. About a billion things on my to-do list, many of which are overdue.

But, our organic cotton Queen (and King) sweatshirts are currently available to pre-order over @heyisthatmeshop and there may be a Black Friday deal on the horizon (if I ever get to that bullet point on my list 😭😭)

And I WILL laugh like this today...it's a must 😏

Not a request for pity, sympathy, empathy, or any other word ending in a -y...

No powerful words of deep insight either...

Just a bit of promotion for one of the passion projects I'm involved in that has taken up my time of late and a reality check that a laugh doesn't always = everything is ok, but even when everything isn't ok, it's ok to laugh πŸ’›

Hope you're ok and if you're not, here's a virtual hug πŸ€—

hey, remember when i first posted this? πŸ€” It w hey, remember when i first posted this? πŸ€”

It was almost 2 years ago, after @sainsburys featured a young, Black girl as the "star" of their Christmas advert 🌟 and my heart melted, while Twitter went into meltdown. The meltdown wasn't as big as the ones Twitter has seen post-George Floyd, but it was a meltdown nonetheless πŸ˜’

Well, I could have written it again today! You must have seen the furore around the new @sainsburys Christmas advert (it's the one featuring the Black family that sent Twitter into a hate-fuelled frenzy πŸ™ƒ) As soon as I first saw it, I knew there would be trouble. I smiled from ear to ear the whole way through the ad, then steeled myself for the racist vitriol I knew I would be reading over the next few days. Every Black person who saw it knew what was coming, even if they won't vocalise it πŸ˜’

Can you imagine? Two years on from my blog post. A bunch of racially-motivated murders of Black people, a black square, some amplification of melanated voices and a whole Black Lives Matter Summer later and we are still worrying about the fact that there is a Black family being used in one TV advert to promote a Supermarket in a part of the world where Black families actually live and contribute to the economy and shop in that supermarket πŸ™ƒ Well damn!

This is part of the reason why we started @heyisthatmeshop - we sell greetings cards, posters, T-shirts and sweaters featuring beautiful Black faces. Because, why the hell not?! And we won't stop. We deserve to be seen (go check out the shop, btw πŸ‘ŒπŸΎ)

Anyway, if you haven't read the blog post, you can get to it via the linktree in the bio πŸ‘†πŸΎ

And while you're there, please don't follow me, if you're not already following me, only to go MIA after 24 hours. You will mess up my engagement (again). Ta 😬

Damn! I really need to get back to blogging 😬

hey, it's world kindness day πŸ’› I didn't really hey, it's world kindness day πŸ’›

I didn't really ever think about the importance of kindness until this kid started using it as one of her key criteria for sorting people. Whenever I ask her opinion on adults or other kids, the first thing she comes back with is "well, they are/are not very kind..." and we go from there. It makes me happy that this is how she has chosen to interact with those around her πŸ’›

Kinda goes without saying, but wouldn't the world be a better place if everyone was just kind and compassionate to themselves and others? 😏

Have you been kind today? It doesn't have to be a massive gesture. You don't have to find a stranger to be kind to. You can start with yourself. We all have it within us to be kind. We just have to...be kind. And remember, little eyes are watching...πŸ‘€

hey, you may now call me a cyclist πŸš΄πŸΎβ€β™€οΈ

Despite being a fully paid up member of the Bad Knee Gang, I spent the day on my bike cos, why not? Even managed to fit in a day date with The Photographer, that consisted of picking up a click and collect order for Kid 1+1 from @waterstones and a cheeky cheese and onion pasty from @greggs_official 😬

And, cos Yvadney's @mumsthatslay #DopeFriday theme is lipstick today, and cos I didn't have to wear a mask to ride my bike, I put some lippie on too πŸ’‹

Praying for dry weather during this lockdown, cos this could actually become a thing πŸš΄πŸΎβ€β™€οΈ

hey, smashing pumpkins...πŸŽƒ Halloween always lo hey, smashing pumpkins...πŸŽƒ

Halloween always looks better in the dark. Now, am I right?

Our pumpkins may have already started rotting and the one on the right might look like it's been punched in the face and lost a couple of teeth πŸ™ˆ, but the kids still managed to have some Halloween fun. I stumbled upon some decorations that I bought for about 25p on 1st Nov last year, but packed away so well that I forgot about them for 12 months. We put a bowl of sweets on the window ledge for the socially distanced trick or treaters, then we walked around the block and spied some more pumpkins (some rotting, others not 😬), all the while, anticipating what BoJo had in store for us when he was finally ready πŸ˜’

Bit different this year, ay...?πŸ™ƒ

That Toblerone bar literally chased us around until it managed to get a photo with us πŸ‘€ My kids left Tenerife smelling like every perfume tester bottle in the building. I channelled my big sis @naomi and was way ahead of the COVID-19 curve with my anti-bac wipes πŸ’πŸΎβ€β™€οΈ

What a difference a year makes!
This October half term feels so different, and not just colder. Alot has happened in the past 12 months - some great, some awful...πŸ˜”

While I will always try to raise awareness around some of the 'awful', I will also use my account to share some of the 'great' too πŸ₯³

Some advice for a Tuesday morning: don't let anyone ever make you feel like you can't use YOUR account to share YOUR happiness. We all need to see it more than ever at the moment πŸ™‚

The wonderful @thekarenarthur encourages us to #wearyourhappy. Well, how about sharing your happy too? In these pics, we have my kids, chocolate, gin, perfume and antibac wipes (now available as biodegradable). Pure bliss! πŸ’›πŸ’›πŸ’›
