First Guest Post: Anoushka Beazley – Just some things I hate about Motherhood

The past week has seen me encounter many firsts.  My first ‘In Real Life’ meet up with an insta-friend (Sunita from, my first featured post in Salisbury Parenting (although it was actually published two weeks ago – I told you I was disorganised) and today, my first guest post!  I am totally loving what Instagram/blogging has opened me up to.  Without it, firstly, I wouldn’t have been introduced to all of you lovely lot and, secondly, it would have taken me longer to come across Anoushka Beazley and her refreshingly honest, and hilarious, take on life as a mother of three.  Have a read below…after which point you will probably want to read the book that she self-published and then got into Waterstones, Daunt Books and Foyles!  All while running around after three kids.  I know…WTF?!

Anyway, enjoy!

  • That I have to cook vegetables
  • That I have to cook
  • That parts of my body no longer function the way they used to after completely ‘normal’, acupuncture-induced, aromatherapy-scented pregnancies
  • That when my father passed away I couldn’t cry in my bed under the duvet because I had to do the school run
  • That I am always on my way back from, or to, or moments away from a f*ckin’ park
  • That I hide chocolate in my coat pocket like a homeless person and binge chew out of one cheek only so the munchkins can’t see
  • That one day these beautiful, bizarre creatures that I grew inside my body like a human terrarium will leave me and I will have to learn to let go of what was once part of me and what I love most in this world

Anoushka Beazley is the Author of the Black Comedy ‘The Good Enough Mother’, which can be purchased through Amazon, Waterstones or Goodreads

Gatlin – a leafy, affluent town: Chelsea tractors and ladies who lunch. However, all is not as it seems. Drea, a most unnatural mother, struggles to find private school fees for her step-daughter Ava after her boyfriend leaves her for another woman. Watching the yummy mummies she becomes inspired, hatching a daring and criminal plan…unleashing all hell in the quiet town of Gatlin. Can Drea survive the fallout and the wrath of the PTA? A satirical and hilarious black comedy about love, motherhood and the human condition.

  1. Man, what a few weeks for you! That’s super cool about your post appearing in Salisbury Parenting. You’re a great writer so no wonder they needed a bit of Hey Is That Me.
Ah thanks Cee for the shout out. Wow I’m really touched. Seriously. It was so nice meeting you. And I get to see you tomorrow night too.
Anoushka is brilliant. That’s pretty rough not being able to grieve at times as you have to get on with life and still be a mama/wife/friend etc. Can’t wait to get into her book. It’s going to be the first book I buy in AGES!
I love what she says about hiding chocolate. I eat all kinds of treats when I’m at work! Although I was a nice mama this morning and let the girls eat the fairy cakes we made. The mess was worth it when they were quiet munching away.
Alicia – we will get to see you soon, yay!!!!
